چکیده

Intravenous leiomyomatosis is a histologically benign smooth-muscle tumor arising from either a uterine myoma or the walls of a uterine vessel with extension into veins. We describe echocardiographic features of intravenous leiomyomatosis with spread into the right-sided cardiac chambers. The patient was a middle-aged woman, with prior history of hysterectomy 2 years earlier who presented with cardiac symptoms and signs. Echocardiographic features included: 1) elongated mobile mass extending from the inferior vena cava, and 2) multiple masses in the right-heart chambers (right atrium and ventricle). Intracardiac leiomyomatosis should be considered in a female patient presenting with an extensive mass in the right-sided cardiac chambers (Iranian Heart Journal 2006; 7 (4): 61-66).

Intravenous leiomyomatosis with intracardiac extension.

Whereas uterine leiomyoma is a common woman disease, intravenous leiomyomatosis with intracaval and intracardiac complications is a rare condition. The initial presentation is dependent upon the severity of the intracardiac involvement, although complete surgery is the best treatment. The case of a 39-year-old woman is described here, with an initial presentation of dyspnea and right heart fail...

One-stage complete resection of giant intracardiac leiomyomatosis with moderate hypothermia extracorporeal circulation and beating heart technique with 36 months follow-up-a case report.

BACKGROUND Intracardiac leiomyomatosis (ICL) is a rare benign neoplasm of the smooth muscle in the uterus extending into the heart. Complete resection is difficult because of the extensive range. CASE PRESENTATION We report a case of one-stage complete resection of a giant ICL with moderate hypothermia extracorporeal circulation and beating heart technique. CONCLUSIONS The outcome of 36 mon...

Massive pelvic recurrence of uterine leiomyomatosis with intracaval-intracardiac extension: video case report and literature review

BACKGROUND Uterine leiomyomas represent the gynecological neoplasm with the highest prevalence worldwide. This apparently benign pathological entity may permeate into the venous system causing the so-called intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus (IVL). IVL may seldom extend to large caliber veins and reach the right cardiac chambers or pulmonary arteries and cause signs of right sided congest...

eComment. Leiomyomatosis: intracardiac extension and pulmonary embolization.

I read with great interest the article by Li et al. [1]. As rightly outlined in this remarkable review of the literature, extracting data solely from case reports is associated with an inherited bias. Only three intraoperative deaths were recorded, thus yielding a mortality rate of 1.5%. The one-stage approach in which a thoraco-laparotomy is performed under cardiopulmonary bypass with or witho...
